2016 Local Government Elections

The Tswelopele Local Municipality retained its composition of 15 seats for the 2016 local government elections. There were 26,233 registered voters in the municipality for the 2016 local government elections. The highest voter turn-out was achieved in Ward 4 with 66.84 %. The lowest voter turn-out in the municipality was in Ward 5 with 52.60 %. The total voter turn-out achieved in the 2016 municipal elections was 60.11 %.

The African National Congress is the majority party in the municipality with 11 seats. The Democratic Alliance holds 3 seats and the Economic Freedom Fighters has one seat in the Council.

2011 Local Government Elections

The Tswelopele Local Municipality has 15 seats. There were 24,197 registered voters in the local municipality for the 2011 local government elections. The highest voter turn-out was achieved in Ward 7 with 66.53 %. The lowest voter turn-out in the municipality was in Ward 5 with 48.03 %. The average voter turn-out achieved in the 2011 municipal elections was 59.52 %. Following the 2011 municipal elections, the African National Congress was returned as the majority party with 12 seats. The Democratic Alliance obtained two seats and the Congress of the People obtained 1 seat in the Council. There are no independent councilors in the municipality.
